Aylestone Meadows

Aylestone Meadows 13th July 2010

The Spark Children's Arts Festival has been developing several natural play spaces in Leicester. The idea of these is to encourage young people to use the spaces which have been designed to offer opportunities for outdoor, imaginative play.

They asked us to help launch one of these spaces which is at Aylestone Meadows, off Aylestone Road in the city.

Mantle is 25 years old in 2010. We are organising 25 art events to celebrate this. Some are very small art works and some are big performances, celebrations and events.

Wirksworth Arts Festival 2010

Wirksworth Arts Festival 2010 28th April 2010

Mantle has been appointed as the Wirksworth Festival Community
Event Facilitator, for the September 2010 festival. We will be producing a spectacular event, involving as many local people as possible.

The project will involve five different workshop programmes, working with local groups and individuals, all of which will all result in processions of different kinds.

On Sunday September 26th, the five processions will start from the outskirts of the town and meet in the centre, where we will have a dramatic celebration, involving fire, music and dance.

This performance project based on the classic Chinese text 'Journey to the West' concluded with performances at Picnic in the Park 2010 on 27th June and at Moira Furnace on 4th July. We worked with around 40 young people during the project. They took part in workshops with Chinese musician Ling Peng, dancer and puppeteer Alice Cade, percussionist Victor Scott, dancer Jenny Edwards and puppeteer Cath Connolly. Costumes, masks and props were designed and made by Mel Harrison.

Window Works

Mantle Arts and North West Leicestershire District Council wish to appoint a number of artists, to create work to transform empty shops in the town centre of Coalville, N.W. Leicestershire. Each artwork will completely fill the window of a shop, creating a spectacular exhibition of contemporary art.

Heart of the Forest Festival

Heart of the Forest Festival 24th August 2009

Every year, for the last three years, thousands of people have visited the Heart of the Forest Festival in Measham. Mantle Arts have been involved since the very first festival and have been delighted with the response from the local community. The event is run by The Heart of The Forest Festival Committee, alongside a range of local partners. This year, it took place on Saturday 27th June and attracted 8,000 people. Mantle were involved in helping local children to create artistic features for the Parade, which travels through the village before arriving on the festival grounds at Measham Leisure Centre.

Miners Gala Parade

Miners Gala Parade 24th August 2009

Mantle Arts will be working in partnership with local schools this Autumn, to create visual arts features for Coalville's very own Miners Gala Parade. Taking place on Saturday 12th September, this parade is being run by Snibston Discovery Museum as part of their Miners Gala. The Gala will run from 10am-5pm and the Parade will begin at 10.30am, starting from Memorial Square.

The Devil and the Three Golden Hairs

The Devil and the Three Golden Hairs 15th July 2009

Blue Box Youth Theatre are staging a spectacular performance at Snibston Country Park, on Friday 17th July & Saturday 18th July 2009 at 8pm. The Devil & the 3 Golden Hairs has been devised by the group of thirteen young people, working with a Director from Babbling Vagabonds Theatre and a professional designer. It is part of Mantle Arts’ programme of street theatre and outdoor performances, which included the Coalville Comes Alive Festival in May 09. The project has been funded by Find Your Talent.
